Meta Workplace

Year: 2022-2023
Client: Meta, Inc.

Field: Social Media
Disciplines: UI Design

About
Workplace from Meta took the patterns people already knew from Facebook, such as groups, feeds, chat and live video, and turned them into a secure intranet for organisations. Companies used it for internal communications, employee engagement and collaboration across teams.

My role
Working in-house at Meta as Lead UI Designer, I designed pages for the Workplace marketing site. Alongside this, I worked closely with Meta’s central design team to develop a robust component library and a consistent design language across meta.com. Our team also looked after Workplace’s own brand and visual identity, separate from Meta’s.

Approach
The marketing pages had two audiences to satisfy. Employees needed it to feel warm and familiar, closer to the social apps they used at home. The IT and HR leaders choosing it needed to trust it with their whole organisation. The identity balanced the two: friendly and human, with the clarity and restraint expected of business software.

Meta announced in 2024 that it would close Workplace. Following this we transitioned the product to Meta for Work.
