MUFG Skylight Application

Year: 2025
Client: MUFG Investor Services

Field: Financial Services
Disciplines: Product Design

About
Skylight is an internal portal and CRM for MUFG Investor Services’ senior management and client relationship managers. It gives a near real-time view of every active deliverable for any client, pulling data from several MUFG platforms into one place.

My role
I designed Skylight end to end. It was also a significant stress test for the Katachi Design System I had developed earlier for MUFG’s client portals.

Approach
Skylight’s users are senior managers and relationship managers who need answers about a client quickly, often just before a call or meeting. They don’t have time to work through raw data from several systems. The guiding principle was to show the status of a client at a glance first, with the detail one click away. Building Skylight on the existing design system meant its components faced data, density and patterns they were never originally designed for. Where they held up, Skylight came together quickly. Where they didn’t, the gaps fed back into the system, making it stronger for every MUFG product built on it.

Complex Data
Skylight draws on data from a range of internal systems, much of it hard to read for anyone outside the team that owns it. The design translates it into clear visual summaries that anyone can understand at a glance.

Client profiles
Everything about a client on one page: key data, SLAs and access, all clear to see.

24 hour coverage
With offices around the world, it matters to know who is online right now. Location headers show day or night for each office: white for day, blue for night.

The data sources are complex, so the structure needed to be simple. Each content type has a collection page, with individual records sitting beneath it.
