About
Volvo Cars US wanted to transform how it listed and sold used cars online. There was no single way to browse stock across the dealer network: each dealer or group ran its own website, so finding a car beyond your local dealership was disjointed and hard work.

My role
At AKQA, I designed the new used car search experience, from early wireframes through to final UI.

Approach
We brought every dealer’s inventory into one place and made location the core of the experience. Users could easily switch between their nearest dealer and others within a short drive, and compare what each had in stock.

Location & Filtering
Filters sit front and centre so users can narrow their search quickly. As they refine it, they can switch between their local dealership and others within a set radius.

Pre-filtered
Users enter their ZIP code before any stock appears, so they only ever see cars they could realistically go and see.

Connecting the user to the dealer
Cars couldn’t be bought online, so the journey is designed to make contacting the right dealership as effortless as possible.

Initial wireframes
Early wireframes, focused on filtering and dealer selection from the start.
